There are two methods for moving a waterbed: rolling or folding. Once you have successfully drained your mattress, you can choose either method for moving. There are several types of mattresses, and even more problems that can confuse someone who does not know how to properly move these items. We have taken the time to explain the most common problems found, along with helpful solutions to these problems.
TYPES:
Floating Mattress- The mattress floats
freely in the frame. You will have ot hold the mattress while draining in
order to make this a little easier to move.
Fiber Mattress
- Considerable care must be taken during draining and packing. Do not fold
this mattress. If the internal layers of fiber become wet, you could have
permanent damage to the baffling system.
Chambered Mattress The mattress cell contains
several individual cells. Folding will damage these cells. After draining your
mattress, use the roll technique to prepare for packing.
Cellular Mattress- This mattress has long
individual tubes made of plastic. When the tubes are placed side by side, they
form the foundation of the mattress. The top quilting is placed over the tubes,
and the unit appears to be an ordinary mattress. This type should be rolled, not
folded.
If you plan to store your waterbed, it is recommended to add the proper solutions after emptying the mattress. This will help eliminate bacterial growth.
Always follow manufacturer's disassembly and draining instructions when available.ROLLING AND FOLDING
Rolling - After you have drained the majority of
the water from your waterbed, start "rolling". This means to
start at one end and roll the mattress gently to force any extra water out of
the drain valve. After that, place an object over it to prevent it from
unrolling until you are ready to transport it.
Folding - Starting at one end, fold the waterbed
about every foot and a half. Be careful to hold the internal vinyl so it
does not shift while folding. Once completed, this system is not as
compact as rolling, but does not allow the mattress to unroll.
